Karl was born in Little Rock and raised in Memphis. Sandy was born in Washington D.C. and reared in the hills north of Chattanooga. They met in the campus ministry (UCSC) at Tennessee Technological University sponsored by the Collegeside Church of Christ in Cookeville, Tennessee. They married in 1989 and attended the Holmes Road Church of Christ in Memphis, Tennessee. For four years, Karl worked as an Engineer and Sandy as an elementary school teacher while Karl studied at Harding Graduate School of Religion (now Harding School of Theology).

After a year teaching at Nigerian Christian Bible College, Karl accepted the role of Campus Minister (West Virginia University) with Madigan Avenue Church of Christ (now Morgantown Church of Christ). In 2000, he became the pulpit minister. In 2006 Karl and Sandy moved to Searcy where Karl took on the preaching position at Cloverdale Church of Christ.

They have three grown sons: Kaleb (Alissa), Joshua, and Paul (Ellie), and two granddaughters (Lucy & Mia) and one grandson (Gabriel). They love being in the grandparent stage of life!

Sandy teaches Kindergarten classes at church and Westside Elementary School. Sandy enjoys cooking, decorating, and all things creative. Karl is Chairperson and Fox Patrol leader for Trail Life Troop 226 at Cloverdale, and enjoys any excuse to be outdoors.
